Growing up is something we do everyday. We learn new things, things to do things not to do. We also learn knowledge everyday at school and every time we learn something we grow up a little. There is also growth in Romeo and Juliet as well as in To Kill a Mockingbird. Growing up can be shown and wrote about in many ways. I show growing up in a grocery list, a letter to Juliet from Romeo, a thank you letter to my childhood, and a book cover for To Kill a Mockingbird. Growing up is never straightforward there are obstacles in life that you have to hurdle and these make you stronger and help you grow.

A grocery list on growing up
· Two pounds of prunes for courage to step up to challenges in life
· Three quarts of chocolate for love so you have a piece of love in your life for other people
· An ounce of chili powder for anger and hate so you can have more feelings than love
· Ten pounds of assorted fruits and vegetables for strength for doing the heavy lifting in life
· Twenty energy drinks so you have energy to do things in life
· Eleven pounds of sugar so your life is sweet
· Nine gallons of milk so you can have strong bones
· Four lemons for some sourness in life to contrast the sweetness of the sugar
· Six ounces of envy and jealousy
· Five to twenty pounds of knowledge of yourself and the world around you so you are not blind of what is happening in the world and n yourself
· One gallon of maturity so your personality can change
· Six feet of growth so you look like you have grown up
When all of these things and others are combined you are growing up. However growing up is a slow process so it doesn’t happen all at the same time. Even though you want to grow up quickly you might regret this in your later years when you wish you were younger and could do the things you used to be able to do. Here is a quote on growing up “Growing up is never straightforward. There are moments when everything is fine, and other moments where you realize that there are certain memories that you’ll never get back and certain people that are going to change. And the hardest part is knowing that there’s nothing you can do except watch them.” Alden Nowlan

Dear Juliet,
I am growing up, but yet I do not want to because I am not growing up with you. When we grow up I hope that we can be together forever. The situation we are in is tough one, and I do not know if we will be able to grow up or not. When you grow up your father will make you marry County Paris, but this is not what I want because this is set up love and we fell in love. A few days ago I was locking myself into my room and creating a fake night, and in the night I would go outside and cry my heart out. This has all changed with growing up a little and going to a party. When I was at this party and I realized that all I needed was to fall into love and grow and I did this by meeting you. Fair Juliet we must grow up together or else our personalities will change and we might not love one another anymore. Please we must grow up together.
Love,

Dear Childhood,
I would like to thank you for all of the fun and happy times we have had together. Even though all of the times weren’t happy and fun I feel like our years together are irreplaceable because I will never have experiences like those childhood ones again. I will never have the no fear, daredevil feeling again, or the feeling of invincibility. When there are good times there are also bad times. Feelings of anger, hate and dislike are still here. The feeling of love is also with me. So don’t worry that I have lost everything from those childhood years. Another thing I still have with me is all of the memories I accumulated over all those years, and some days I will remember one and a smile will come on my face. Alas we must part because I am a teen and even though those childhood years are still with me I am creating new years, the teen years. Thank you again childhood and goodbye.
Sincerely,
Gaelen Frink

| To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird has many themes and one of those is growing up. One big moment that is throughout the book is the physical growing up. Jem turns twelve and Scout turns 10 in the book. There is also the mental growth or maturing. Jem when he first got his gun he shot the birds with it, but when Scout was going to kill a pill bug he wouldn’t let her do this. Dill also has to grow up because of his parents. This is because he has to figure out things about his parents like do they love him or do they just buy him things and then don’t pay attention to him. Another theme in To Kill a Mockingbird was the theme of circles because everything seemed to happen and then come to a close in seemingly a circle. Sometimes these circles happened twice. Growing up happened in a circle. |
